Colonel Tha (Neil)

Following our May 23 arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, our intent was to proceed to Nha Trang to meet with Colonel Tha. However, shortly after the 50th anniversary memorial commemorating the May 6 Battle of Nhi Ha, Tha (91 years of age) suffered a heart attack and was rushed north to a hospital in Hanoi. Surgery was successful, but he's under doctor's care until released. So, our plans were altered to allow a visit around June 18, just before the flight home. Yesterday Khanh set up a video chat with the colonel, who seemed to be in decent spirits. It is extremely unlikely, though, that he'll be home prior to our departure. Tha expressed a desire that we go to Hanoi to visit him, a request that we couldn't accommodate. However, he did get to meet Katie and Kira via video.

We wish the commander a steady and successful recovery.

  1. I'm sorry you didn't get to visit with him in person but at least the video chat was possible.

  2. Sorry to hear that. So glad you were able to begin these missions and meet him before it is too late. Look at all you accomplished. Wishing him well.

    1. Possibly the stress of the ceremonial event triggered the heart attack. Maybe I'll make Dec/Jan trip for a visit.
